Ear and Noise protection

At TP Hearing, we are passionate about the saying ‘prevention is better than cure.’ This is why protecting your ears and hearing are so important. We provide a wide range of custom-made ear plugs and noise protection to suit a range of different needs.

Some of the activities which require ear protection can include

  • Swimming/Windy sports

Regular cold-water or wind contact can cause a condition called ‘swimmers’ or ‘surfers’ ear, medically termed as exostosis. This is your body’s incredible protective response to minimise the cold-water exposure to your ear canal and ear drum. The cells in the bony walls surrounding the ear canal go forth and multiply! Causing rounded bony overgrowths to now reside in your ear canals. They are usually harmless but can contribute to repeated infections and can sometimes result in surgery if left untreated. Swim plugs are an easy way to prevent this.

  • Sleeping

Where ambient noise, or the snore of a significant other can be rather a nuisance!

  • Loud machinery

Maybe you work on a construction site or you’re a tradesman who operates loud machinery?

  • Music

From playing in a band, to DJ’ing and concert going, you should protect your hearing to prevent noise induced damage. Bespoke attenuator plugs can be used to reduce the level of sound, protecting your hearing from dangerous and prolonged noise exposure.

  • Firearms

Whether it’s leisurely shooting or being in the armed forces, these loud bangs can cause irreversible noise induced hearing loss. Bespoke noise plugs can protect your hearing from these loud impulse sounds whilst amplifying speech so you can still hear conversation.

  • Motorsports

Hearing Assessment

Do you find that you can hear people are talking but you can’t make out what they’ve said?

Perhaps you find it challenging now people are wearing masks and asking them to repeat is becoming more frequent?

Do you find you lack clarity when listening to the TV or on phone calls?

Maybe you find yourself avoiding conversation and isolating yourself from social situations?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions or have other hearing concerns, we’d encourage you to get your hearing assessed.

Our hearing assessment costs £60 and will take up to 90 minutes.

*This is discounted from the price of your hearing aids if purchased with us*

What happens during the appointment?

Firstly, your hearing specialist will discuss your hearing needs to discover your hopes for improvement. We need to determine, led by you, what your lifestyle is like so we can make sure we tailor recommendations (if required) for you. It may be that you would like to hear the TV and phone calls better because you’re at home most of the time or maybe you’re conducting busy meetings and social events where you would like to increase your participation?

We will then take a detailed medical history and carry out a full examination of your ears. Using the latest technology, we will display your ear canals and eardrums on a large screen for you to see and talk you through what’s there (if you’re interested!)

Next? Time to listen for the beeps. You will have headphones and a response button, or different method of responding if required and you will carefully listen and respond for any, but most importantly, the very softest sounds. This is recorded in the form of a graph called an audiogram, which you will have as part of your personal hearing report.

Finally, we will discuss and explain your results fully and if hearing aids are recommended then an NHS referral can be made, or you can explore your private hearing aid options with us. If you choose private hearing aids, we will recommend the best solution based on your lifestyle, hearing loss and budget. You will have a personal hearing report detailing the outcomes of your assessment.
